Walking trip to the Temple of Heaven
Here are a bunch of pictures from our walking trip to the Temple of Heaven. Somehow they have been posted in the wrong order, but it`s too late and I`m too tired to change them now. There`s a shot of me with Chia and Peter on the hotel steps before we left. Chia still does not have any luggage and went to the pearl market (which is just around the corner from the hotel) to buy some. She`s not a big women by Canadian sizes, but needs xxxl sizes in China. The Temple is only about 2 km from the hotel so we walked and got a good look around. When we got the the temple we walked around for a bit and then noticed that a group of middle-age women who kept looking at Gracie and Evan. Finally one of them talked directly to Gracie, who just ignored them. I tried talking to them but didn`t get anywhere, when one of then pointed to Gracie and said `Chinese - Chinese`. I said yes but they still went away shaking their heads. Gracie said they were`stupid`, so it`s a good thing they didn`t speak much English (she`s right in a way, she`s certainly not Irish). When we left the temple the kids spotted what we thought was a playground and ran over, but it turned out to be some sort of adult outside exercise yard. It did look like metal playground equipment, but it was full of middle aged men and women very diligently working out in their winter coats! I`ve included a picture but it`s hard to see. The last shot is supposed to be the kids sleeping, but I think the shots are now somewhere in the middle. Glenn watched the kids while I went out for supper with part for our group (he was really tired and volunteered to stay). We ate at a local noodle place that Lily said was where local people in the neighbourhood go. We were the only non-Chinese in the place and none of the staff spoke English but we pointed to pictures on the menu and had a good meal. I`m off to bed now, we are getting up early to see the Summer Palace.
